Welcome to Wellington’s Best Kept Secret

Most commonly known for Blossom Valley, where hundreds of cherry blossom tress bloom in Sep-Oct.

Spring is filled with rhododendrons, azaleas, and flowering magnolias, and the vibrant new growth of Japanese maples as they burst into life. The autumn season is vibrant and popular especially during our annual Easter Egg Hunt which is a hit for local kids. In summer the gardens come alive with beautiful hydrangeas, as well as our mini sunflower field.

Whether you’re walking along blooming paths or relaxing by one of our ponds, Aston Norwood Gardens offers a delightful experience for everyone.

History

From a rundown cattle farm in 1994 to Wellingtons Premier Private garden in 2025, Aston Norwood Gardens has been 30 years in the making. Owners Mark and Fiona Rammell bought the land where Aston Norwood now sits in 1992 with a grand plan to turn the land into a private garden, wedding venue, and cafe.

Seasonal Changes

A wonderful experience in every season. Embrace vibrant colours in Autumn. Wander through the magic of Blossom Valley, lose yourself in the enchanting fairy garden, or explore our seasonal mini-maze—tulips bursting into colour each spring and towering sunflowers in summer. Whether you’re out for a peaceful stroll, capturing fresh family photos, or snapping show-stopping shots to impress your friends, there’s always something new to discover.

Our gardens are full of floral delights—flowering rhododendrons, azaleas, hydrangeas—set among pleached London planes, 30-year-old oaks and sturdy golden elms. Scattered throughout you'll find charming props and photo spots: a rustic swing, an old-school bicycle, a handmade rowboat, a cascading man-made waterfall and several bridges draped in flowering wisteria. We’re always dreaming up new additions, so there’s every reason to return. And that’s before we mention our Easter egg hunt, which now draws more than 3,000 happy visitors.

Blossom Valley

Blossom Valley is an annual spring celebration sure to put the spring in your step as you explore the 14 acres of garden with New Zealand’s highest number and density of mature cherry blossom trees in the one place. For just a short amount of time each year at Aston Norwood Gardens in Kaitoke, Upper Hutt, hundreds of cherry trees come alive creating a canopy of pink blossom.

The event is carefully scheduled around the natural blossoming of the trees, with data from previous years informing the date selection. While the team at Blossom Valley do their best to ensure the ultimate blossom experience the timing of the bloom is up to mother nature.
